Amy Feldman

Artist Statement

My paintings reflect my journey as an artist from New York City and now living among the colorful shifting moods of San Francisco. I paint to feel, to express myself when words are silent, as emotions rise to the surface. I create an abstract narrative through color usage, paint application, contrast and texture. Combining acrylic, watercolor and pastel simultaneously, I develop a dynamic story of movement on paper and canvas. Starting off aggressively, I paint as fast as I can to capture my energy. I often move between multiple canvases or paper pieces, building the surface up from dark to light and light to dark with various markings and color distinction. This spontaneous process absorbs all of my presence. Upon completion when my energy subsides, I wait and watch as the pieces reflect their own moods back to me, and then, I delicately add finishing touches.
